FrontRange License Manager
Manage Software Assets, Licensing & Compliance

Software represents a significant cost burden to the enterprise in terms of purchase, maintenance and ongoing management.  To accurately compare inventoried software against license entitlement documentation you need License Manager, the collaborative keystone for effective "SAM" (software asset management) and compliance.

License Manager provides an easy to use web-based interface that integrates seamlessly with FrontRange Discovery (formerly Centennial).  FrontRange Discovery does the leg work and finds the software scattered across your network.  License Manager then takes this data and simplifies the traditionally complex task of capturing license entitlement information, matching software titles to vendor SKUs and finally reconciling what is installed against what licenses are actually owned.

Key benefits include:

  • Increased knowledge of your software estate and usage

  • Enterprise role-based SAM

  • Full audit trail of "Who did what, when..."

  • Intelligent upgrade and downgrade rights management

  • Implement SAM processes aligned with ISO 19770-1 guidelines

Four Simplified Steps to Compliance Freedom!

1. Import and filter discovered software
Unlike other solutions, License Manager automatically imports discovered software data without the need for additional data filtering and cleansing tools.  Thanks to its seamless integration with FrontRange Discovery, License Manager only imports the software titles that need to be managed and automatically ensures that new discovery data is updated on a regular, scheduled basis.

2. Capture “Proof of Entitlement”
Authorized data entry users can quickly add new software purchases to License Manager through a structured web interface.  All important information, such as vendor, purchase order, license quantity, cost, and both vendor and reseller SKUs are captured.  Proof of Entitlement documents can be attached to each record for future reference and audit purposes.

For easy document management, License Manager features the ability to take the appropriate document (PDF or other formats) and attach it directly to the entitlement record.  No more missing purchase orders!

3. Match entitlement with known vendor software
A key differentiator for License Manager is its ability to automatically match entries on entitlement records with known software titles.  In most cases this will remove the need for the user to manually collate entitlement records with vendor software catalogs.

4. Report on license compliance status
Once Proof of Entitlement documents have been entered and the License Manager database is populated with the latest discovered data, authorized users can quickly reconcile entitlement against usage.  License Manager will highlight over-licensing and under-licensing, as well as automatically calculating upgrade and downgrade rights.

Q. Does this replace the license management that I currently can do in FrontRange Discovery (through the Control Center) or is this a new add-on?

A. No, License Manager does not replace the license management functions within the FrontRange Discovery Control Center.  License Manager was designed to provide compliance and proof of entitlement functions that go above and beyond the
out-of-the-box tools.  It is a value-added module for FrontRange Discovery.

FrontRange License Manager 3.1
In July 2010, FrontRange Solutions announced the release of FrontRange License Manager 3.1.  This new version features a number of key enhancements designed to help customer improve the speed, accuracy and scope of their software license management activities.

These new features include:

  • Improved Synchronization Between License Manager & Discovery
This will ensure a closer match between the naming and counts of applications reported in both FrontRange Discovery and License Manager, as well as offering a faster reconciliation for many users.

  • Upgraded Nexus Hosted Software Catalog: 14 new vendors added to SKU repository, further vendors will be added.

  • Support for Microsoft Enterprise Agreements and Company-Wide Agreements: Create, track and amend company-wide software licensing agreements

  • Alternative Software Input Sources:  In addition to FrontRange Discovery, users can now import software audit information from SMS 2003 and Enteo Inventory 3.2.

  • Alternative License Information Input Sources:  As well as the existing CLP input mechanism, there will be a new generic Excel-based import mechanism and Claret report template for license data import.

Along with several other minor enhancements, these developments represent a significant step forward in the maturity of the License Manager solution, enabling you
to be more productive and to use a single solution to extend your current license management activities to a broader selection of applications across the enterprise.

How Do I Upgrade to License Manager 3.1?
