When assets become liabilities -
will you know the difference?
Security.Advisor has an
important role to play in equipping
your organization to
better
understand both the opportunities to
make improvements in IT management
as well as to identify the risks
inside your network.
The Security.Advisor solution enables organizations to use the dynamic IT asset information, presented by Centennial Discovery, to both detect and visualize liabilities on the network in the form of software and hardware vulnerabilities, plus potentially dangerous applications on the network. Whether the security threat is an un-patched version of Internet Explorer or the presence of P2P file-sharing software, Security.Advisor is intended to help identify the risk, it's severity and pinpoint which PC's on your network are effected.

Security.Advisor
automatically compares known
software vulnerabilities relating to
commercial applications (e.g.
Microsoft) while separately defining
'greynets'
(unapproved software that pose
a potential threat to your network).
We are all familiar these days with the terms IT Asset Management and Software Asset Management ("SAM"). Left unmanaged, assets can quickly become liabilities that pose a significant threat to the organization. Unmanaged assets may pose unnoticed security flaws in desktop applications, malware on the network or the misuse of computer systems by unauthorized staff. The growing number of threats to your IT systems that exist inside your firewall demands better visibility of both the good things and the bad on the network.
Software and Firmware Vulnerability Scanning
The vulnerability alerting within Security.Advisor works by comparing an audit of all discovered firmware and software on the network against a live database of published security risks. When discovered assets match known issues, they are automatically flagged to administrators through Centennial Discovery's (Windows based) Control Center and the Discovery.Dashboard (web interface).
Risks are color-coded and categorized as low, medium, high and critical. Following a highlighted vulnerability will immediately show the administrator exactly which PC's or other assets on the network are effected - enabling the organization to take immediate action.
Greynet Management
With software so easily downloaded
from the Internet, or installed
from CD's, keeping track of applications across the
network is a major undertaking.
Security.Advisor makes the task of
managing risk far easier by
automatically alerting
administrators to the presence of
unwanted software on the network -
whether in the form of Spyware,
games, file-sharing, or other
user-defined types.
